3 charged with DUI
WELLSBORO - Three people recently were charged in District Judge Phillip Sweet's courtroom with driving under the influence of intoxicants. All were issued a summons to appear at a preliminary hearing Aug. 31.
According to court documents, they and the police agencies involved are:
Jonathan E. Pasco, 26, of 15 Chad Lane, borough police July 17 following a traffic stop on East Avenue.
Daniel E. Lyons, 23, of 19 Queen St., borough police July 17 following a traffic stop on Crafton Street.
Joshua D. Sherman, 32, of 104 Nichols St., borough police July 17 following a traffic stop on West Avenue.
Woman charged with prescription forgery
WELLSBORO - Brianne L. Vescovi, 24, of 30 Hickory Terrace, recently was charged with forgery by borough police in District Judge Phillip Sweet's courtroom.
According to court documents, on May 19, Vescovi received a prescription from Dr. Herbert R. Roberts for 20 Percocet tablets, but she allegedly wrote a number two on the refill line.
She then took the forged prescription to the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital pharmacy to have it filled in order to sell or distribute the drug to another person, police allege.
She was issued a summons to appear at a preliminary hearing Aug. 31.
Man sentenced for DUI, fleeing and eluding police
WELLSBORO - Jerry L. Mead Jr., 23, of 2809 Route 49, Westfield, was sentenced in Tioga County Court Monday to five years intermediate punishment for driving under the influence of intoxicants and fleeing and eluding police.
According to court documents, Mead also must pay fines and court costs and will serve the last 30 days of the first five months on house arrest/electronic monitoring. He was given credit for five days time served.
Mead was charged by Westfield Borough police Dec. 6, 2006, following a high speed chase on icy Route 49 and California Road.
Man fined for drug paraphernalia
WELLSBORO - Darnell L. Williams, 34, of 31 S. Main St., Tioga, was fined $150 plus court costs for possession of drug paraphernalia in Tioga County Court Monday. He must pay $668 in fines and fees.
He was charged by state police May 2 at his house after police searched the residence and served an arrest warrant on him from Berks County.
A search warrant was served after troopers gained information during an investigation of alleged drug activity at the address. During the search, police found numerous items of drug paraphernalia, pipes, digital scales and bongs, rolling papers and screens for pipes in the tank of an unused toilet. Several pill bottles containing marijuana seeds and 13 pot plants also were seized.
19-year-old gets max of 9 years for theft, burglary, drug crimes
WELLSBORO - Paul E. Paxson, 19, of 24 Austin St., was sentenced for several charges in Tioga County Court Monday.
According to court documents, Paxson was sentenced to 18 months to 36 months in state prison and must pay $45 restitution plus court costs for robbery. He was given credit for 239 days time served.
For a second theft count in the same incident, he was sentenced to 16 to 36 months.
He was charged by borough police Nov. 30 after he took a purse from a car parked in an alley.
Paxson also was sentenced to 2 1/2 years to five years for burglary and must pay restitution of $720 and court costs. He was given credit for 185 days time served.
Paxson was charged by borough police Nov. 19 after he took three firearms from a residence at 36 Charleston St., along with a blanket and $70 in change.
In a third sentencing, Paxson was sentenced to state prison for one year to three years for manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. He also must pay court costs and was given credit for 168 days time served.
He was charged by state police Feb. 8 following a controlled purchase of marijuana at 133 Tioga St.
The sentences will run concurrently
Man sentenced on weapons conviction
WELLSBORO - BJ Lee Coleman, 30, of 3764 Pine Mountain Road, Jersey Shore, was sentenced in Tioga County Court Monday to almost 2 1/2 to 5 years in Tioga County Prison for unlawful possession of a loaded weapon. He also must pay a $500 fine and court costs.
He was charged by the DCNR Bureau of Forestry after he gave a weapon to a passenger in his car who shot at a deer decoy operated by Wildlife Conservation Officer Rodney Mee on Dec. 15 in Tioga State Forest, Elk Township.
Police determined that Coleman was prohibited from owning, possessing or using a firearm.
New York man sentenced to Pa. county prison for unauthorized motor vehicle use
WELLSBORO - Alexander J. Dehoyos, 28, of Rochester, N.Y., was sentenced in Tioga County Court Monday to 11 1/2 months to 23 months in the Tioga County Prison for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He also must pay court costs.
According to court documents, Dehoyos was charged by state police March 22 at Route 15. The charges against him were amended by the court on July 26.
