Woman charged with making false reports

WELLSBORO — Terri L. Sweet, 25, of 229 Cherry Flats Road, Mansfield, has been charged by state police with making false reports to law enforcement after she claimed she had been assaulted by her boyfriend last month.

Sweet called police on April 9 to report that her boyfriend, Brian A. Carey, 23, had allegedly hit her with a guitar string, leaving marks on her, according to documents filed with District Judge Phillip Sweet’s office.

Police say when they got to the residence, Sweet had changed her story and said she had not been assaulted but that, during an argument, Carey threw a guitar string at her and it became unraveled in flight and hit her on the back, but she didn’t have any injuries.

Sweet was issued a summons to appear.


Wellsboro man, 47, charged with DUI

WELLSBORO — Jason L. Coolidge, 47, of 55 Reese Hill Road, has been charged by borough police with driving under the influence of intoxicants.

Coolidge was stopped by police for a traffic violation April 28 on Tioga Street, according to documents filed with District Judge Phillip Sweet’s office. He was issued a summons to appear.


Man charged with trespassing at university

MANSFIELD — Cory V. Clark, 29, of 70 E. Elmira St., was charged with criminal trespass following an incident at Mansfield University’s Laurel B dormitory earlier this month.

Clark allegedly was found in the room of Jen Taylor by university police on May 3, after he had been told both verbally and in writing that he was not allowed to be in any dormitory on campus, according to documents filed with District Judge James Carlson.



Blossburg man charged with assaulting his wife

MANSFIELD — Michael T. Groover, 41, of 328 Granger St., Blossburg, was charged by Blossburg Borough police with aggravated assault, simple assault and terrorist threats after he allegedly hit his wife during a domestic dispute May 7.

Groover allegedly pointed a gun at his wife’s chest and the back of her head, while verbally threatening to kill her, according to documents filed at District Judge James Carlson’s office. He then allegedly punched her several times in the head and face, causing injury to her, police said.

Groover was jailed in lieu of $20,000 bail and his preliminary hearing is set for today.


Teen jailed on drug charges

Nathan E. Crowder, 19, of 645 Second St. was jailed on drug charges last week for allegedly possessing 25 small bags of cocaine that he attempted to conceal in rolled-up tissue paper, according to city police.

Police allege Crowder dropped the rolled-up tissue paper on the ground moments before he was searched in the 600 block of Memorial Avenue about 10:45 p.m. May 8.

He was being searched for weapons as officers were serving him a protection from abuse odor, police said.

When officers unwrapped the tissue paper, Crowder bolted from them but was quickly apprehended, police said.

Following his arraignment before District Judge Jerry C. Lepley on charges of possession with intent to deliver cocaine, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and escape, Crowder was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in default of $25,000 bail.



Man arrested after falling asleep at bar

An intoxicated man who fell asleep early Wednesday morning at the bar inside Kelly’s Grill on West Fourth Street was jailed on a parole violation and drug-related charges after he was found to be carrying marijuana, city police said.

Shawn Maurice McLeod, 34, of Philadelphia “stumbled to the establishment, sat down at the bar and, before the bartender could wait on him, he laid his head down on the bar and fell asleep,” an officer wrote in an affidavit.

When officers arrived at the business at 37 W. Fourth St. about 1:20 a.m., they found McLeod allegedly possessing the controlled substance.

Automatically jailed on a parole violation, McLeod later was arraigned before District Judge Allen P. Page III on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness. He was recommitted in default of $1,500 bail.



Police: Man threatens acquaintance with ice pick

A South Williamsport man faces charges in connection with a domestic disturbance in which he threatened another man with an ice pick, according to borough police.

Johnathan Bradley Pace, 23, of 345 Stanton St. has been charged with two counts of terroristic threats and one count each of recklessly endangering, possession of a prohibitive offensive weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The charges stem from an incident on March 28 in which Pace allegedly threatened to break the jaw of his brother, Jordan Musheno, at Pace’s home, police said.

Musheno called Alex Cimini for help and, when Cimini arrived on the scene minutes later, Pace pulled out an ice pick and used it to allegedly threaten Cimini several times, police said.

Incarcerated in the Lycoming County Prison on a parole violation since the night of the disturbance, Pace was arraigned before District Judge Kenneth T. Schriner Jr. and recommitted in default of $25,000 bail.


Man, 52, found guilty in child sex assault case

A Hughesville area man was found guilty Thursday in County Court on all counts involving a rape and sexual assault against a young girl, according to court officials.

Following a trial that began Wednesday and concluded Thursday, William J. Reynolds, 52, of 68 Orchard Ave., Wolf Township, was found guilty of rape of a child, statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and indecent assault, court officials said.

Reynolds was arrested after police investigated allegations made by the 11-year-old girl, who claimed that he sexually assaulted her between Aug. 1, 2006, and Sept. 30 of that year, police said.

Judge Kenneth D. Brown presided.


Another alleged ‘Failing Grade’ drug dealer arraigned

WELLSBORO — Jevon Battersbee, 29, of Philadelphia was arraigned before District Judge Phillip Sweet late Wednesday after being brought in by state police from New York City, where he was being held following his arrest last month.

Battersbee is one of 16 people charged with selling illegal drugs in the “Operation Failing Grade” investigation conducted over the past three to four years.

All of those charged in Phase II of the operation have been brought in, with the exception of Jamalle Walker, 28, of Bronx, N.Y. Police have not yet located Walker.

Battersbee was jailed in lieu of $25,000 and his preliminary hearing is set for May 30.



Man turns himself in to face drug charges

Nafeest Jamal Griffin, 23, of 653 Hepburn St. turned himself in Tuesday to face state police charges of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the 1600 block of Lincoln Avenue on Feb. 2.

Following his arraignment before District Judge Kenneth T. Schriner Jr., Griffin was released on $1,000 bail.
