Lock Haven has a new health officer, to hire new police officer
LOCK HAVEN — City police officer James M. Bathurst resigned Friday from the force — as ordered by the court — and the city is moving toward filling the vacancy soon, council heard Monday.
Bathurst has been on leave since he was involved in a stand-off at his home. The stand-off ended without incident, but the officer was involuntarily committed for a mental health evaluation because he had reportedly threatened suicide.
State police then filed charges in November that he had used his position as an officer to stalk and harass women.
Bathurst pleaded guilty Friday to some of the charges, and the others are expected to be dismissed within a month. He was sentenced to three years’ probation and required to officially resign from the local force immediately.
