Hopefully, Cinema Center is just the start downtown
The opening of the Cinema Center on West Fourth Street is the most visible evidence of a revitalized downtown Williamsport.
The theater complex, fresh and clean, opened to public fanfare May 1, climaxing a rescue effort of the previous city administration.
If offers clear potential to bring new traffic to center city, a prospect that doesn’t come along everyday. Provided the owners put out a quality offering of first-run movies, the theater complex has a great chance to be a success.
The larger hope is that this is just a beginning for downtown Williamsport.
As spring turns to summer, the barricades will be removed and all of the road construction around the new Market Street Bridge will be completed. Improved traffic patterns will finally start to pay dividends.
There are hints that this improved Beltway and downtown accessibility will be matched with new retail development.
City rental property inspection deadline needs to be met
In the second year of Williamsport’s rental inspection ordinance, about 500 properties have yet to be inspected by June 30 to avoid an appearance before a district judge.

Government spending cuts would be correct recession
